Malware Removal

on September 6, 2018 No comments

How do you remove malicious software, Malware, from your system? There are do it yourself instructions you can find on Google and the other search engines, but our advice is, call UTS. There are several different versions of Malware floating around, just waiting to get into your network, and if you aren’t proficient in it’s removal, you could end up doing more harm than good.

How can you tell if you have Malware on your system? If your network has been running fine and the response time on the various computers within your network was good, and now all of a sudden things seem to have slowed to a crawl, there is a very good chance something has infected your system.

There are other signs as well, like extensions added to your search bar, or redirects from the home page you normally see.

If you have a strong antivirus software currently installed on your system, the programs usually have a scan component you can initiate to go out and check for viruses. Before you do anything else, go ahead and run the scan. It will notify you of any viruses it detects and sometimes it will even isolate the code in a special area. Then before you do anything else, give us a call. Sometimes the virus you have will bury itself deep in your system, and once you reboot the software, it’s almost impossible to find.

In the meantime, it could be a good idea to take your system offline until we get there and can run our diagnostic programs to try to isolate the virus.

Trying to clean up Malware or Viruses yourself, unless you have some pretty high level technical skills, could be kind of like trying to re-wire your own home. You can cause a mess and it may cost you twice as much time and money to fix any mistakes you might make.

Cybersecurity Threats to Your Business

on July 25, 2018 No comments

vero beach computer and it company, vero beach prevention of ransonware attacks, vero beach computer installation company

Cybersecurity is a hot topic and at Unified Technology we are continually looking for the latest information regarding the prevention of cyber threats. What was once thought of as a big company/governmental issue is trickling down to end users, both in business and personal use. It’s just too easy for someone to send a phishing email with a virus embedded or attached and there is almost always someone within the company who isn’t paying attention. Once these emails are open and the software gets on your server, you are in trouble.

Spyware and Other Malicious Methods of Attack on Your Computer

on June 3, 2017 No comments

spyware removal, it solutions for companies, help deskvero beach computer expertsAs a company who’s main product the installation and maintenance of computer networks for businesses, we are acutely aware of the kind of problems caused by software.  Especially FREE Software!

When a client calls us with the complaint that a certain computer in their network is acting funny, we can pretty much guarantee that the user has downloaded something. By now we have encountered this situation often enough so that we know the symptoms. Resolving and removing Spyware and Malware can be time-consuming, but often we have a successful outcome and are able to get our clients back up and running.

My team here at Unified Techs warns our clients to be very careful of opening emails which are not from someone you know and giving up private information over the web. But we will always have one or two people who forget, and they end up creating a situation which can affect all of the computers on their network and can sometimes even infect the computers belonging to their clients.

Most recently we noticed an uptick in  SPYWARE, in particular, we saw a rash of fake anti-virus programs. These are malicious programs which get installed on your PC and pretend to be legitimate programs trying to remove a virus for you; all you need to do is enter a credit card number to buy a subscription. Never enter your card info… at

First of all, PLEASE do not download any FREE programs which promise to optimize your PC performance, and protect your system. They are designed to do just the opposite. These programs are called Spyware, and while some are simply a nuisance, others will take over your computer and demand ransom money. They will bury malicious code in the dark corners of your system and it can be almost impossible to remove them.

Second, never enter your card info… at best you will be charged the subscription fee and a virus installed on your system. Which you will then have to call us to remove.

The absolute worst case is these hackers will go on a shopping spree with your credit card info.

If you are not certain who these Spyware companies are, here are some of the more common names:

– Win Antivirus Pro

– Antivirus Pro 2009

– Micro Antivirus

– WinAntiSpyware

– Antispyware Pro XP

– AntiVirus 360

– AntiVirus Lab 2009

Unfortunately, these programs will not easily uninstall and require some advanced tools and registry editing to remove.  DO NOT attempt to remove them yourself!

Unless you are very familiar with editing the guts of your Operating System (OS) you will likely cause more harm than good trying to remove them. Your best defense is continual awareness, not opening unknown applications or downloading from unsafe websites, especially ones that give away free music, movies, games, or other computer programs you would normally pay for.

Windows 10 Tiles, or Start Screen?

on April 4, 2017 No comments

manage IT company, IT management, computer installations, computer repairs, network installations,

Windows 10 is an operating system that aims to  mimic operating systems we use on our tablets and smart phones. While it takes some getting used to, as all new software does, on a touch screen computer, it’s easy to manage. You have the same swipe ability that many of us have become used to on our tablets and smart phones. On systems without a touch screen it can be more cumbersome to sift through. We have users who really became upset when the Windows 10  Operating system was first uploaded. They literally could not find anything on their laptop or desktop.

Managed IT Support

Running a business is all encompassing. When it was just you and a couple of others, keeping up with IT demands was simple. Now you have 30 employees, a layer of management and managing your IT needs is interfering with your mission.

Growing a business or non-profit adds new layers of computer and data management skills. The prospect of losing valuable information because backups are not performed is something you will need to plan for. Disruption of services due to a network problem can be very costly. Hiring just one person to try and cover a multiple number of devices can work for a while, but even if you do have an IT person, there are times when one person simply cannot do it all.

Whatever cost savings you think you get by attempting to manage your IT needs in house can quickly disappear with one bad outage. It’s still early in the year, and planning to have managed IT services through Unified Technology Solutions is something we would like for you to consider.

We also want to let you know that at Unified Technology Solutions not only can we maintain and repair your computers, we can also help to integrate your Phone service. There are some state of the art VOIP solutions for companies which save you money, but also give you tremendous flexibility.

Give us a call, let’s have a chat, see how we can help you out.
